And mine have made sure I don’t forget that.

So, before I tell you anything else about the world they’re living in, I think you should meet a few of the people trying to survive it.

Dean

A little too good at overthinking.

Dean is the kind of person who wants to believe there’s a right way to do things—even when the world around him keeps proving otherwise.

He’s spent years learning how to be a soldier.

He hasn’t spent nearly as much time learning how to be vulnerable.

And then he meets Juliet.

Juliet

Juliet doesn’t need to be the loudest person in the room to take control of it.

She’s spent enough time surviving on her own to know that trusting people comes with a price.

But Dean is different.

Not necessarily because she trusts him.

At least, not at first.

Rose

Fierce. Determined. Protective.

And very, very complicated.

Rose loves Dean.

But love doesn’t always make people selfless.

Sometimes it makes them afraid.

Sometimes it makes them hold on too tightly.

And sometimes the person you love isn’t necessarily the person you understand.

These three are only the beginning.

There are friendships that shouldn’t work.

Secrets that shouldn’t stay buried.

And people who are going to have to decide exactly what they’re willing to sacrifice to survive.

I can’t wait for you to meet the rest.
